Taiwan University Opens New AI R&D Center in Tainan

Taiwan's National Cheng Kung University recently entered a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Tainan City Government to jointly launch a new AI (Artificial Intelligence) Service R&D center for AI research across academia, industry, and government sectors in Taiwan, according to the Central News Agency. The research areas will include intelligence manufacturing, robots, aquaculture, and healthcare. Equipped with a super computer NVidia DGX-1 worth NT$ 7 million (US$240,800; US$1 = NT$29.1) that boasts to equal to 25 traditional servers with transmission speed of 768GB per second, the center is able to conduct deep learning and accelerate AI analysis upon request to help address issues related to smart city, digital governance, city servant professional empowerment, and big-data analysis.
